Cecelia Conway & Horse Power Healing Center are excited to announce the release of a new illustrated children’s book about a very special Norwegian Fjord named Herger.

Herger came to Horse Power at the age of 20 after a long career in combined driving and trail riding. He quickly became a barn favorite due to his gentle disposition, steady nature, and quality gaits.

In 2022 he was nominated and named PATH Intl. Region 6 Therapy Horse of the Year.

After that there was incredible interest in Herger and his story and the idea of creating a children’s book about him was born.

In the process of researching his history, Conway was able to contact all of his previous owners with the help of the Norwegian Fjord Horse Registry. From there, she reached out and spoke to four of his five owners to learn about his incredible story.

Born in Canada in 1997, Herger spent much of his time as a youngster living in their mountain home. When he was old enough he was taught to ride and drive and eventually went on to compete in pairs combined driving.

He has also been a driving demonstration horse at the World Equestrian Games in Lexington Kentucky, gone on many mountain packing trips, and pulled sleighs throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota during the winter.

At Horse Power, Herger assists with lessons with a wide variety of clients including those who participate in unmounted groundwork, leadline and assisted riding lessons, and independent riding lessons.

He’s worked with toddlers all the way up to Horse Power’s most independent students in their Veteran’s program.

Herger’s story is certainly one for the history books and his book is a fantastic read for children ages 4-8.
